In 2013, Lego Marvel Super Heroes was released and gave us essentially all we would and could want from a Marvel Lego game. It had tons of characters, content and an open world.
Lego Batman 2 DC Superheroes is a milestone for every Lego game out there. It's credited for adding a large open world and voice acting. These new additions have been staples ever since and ultimately improved the series. This entry also grew into something more than the Batman ethos, pulling from the DC universe as a whole.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes has one explorable open world, a miniature version of Manhattan. You can explore it on foot, drive vehicles, fly around with some amusing (but initially difficult) controls, or even play a similar game to your favorite old open world Spider-Man.SsT149f.
